‘Delayed trial could discourage witnesses’

Also on Friday, one of the prosecutors of the Chamber and the representative of Manila, Joel Chua, said that a delayed political trial of the Senate could discourage witnesses to testify against the vice president.

Chua was position after the president of the Senate Francis Escudero He launched a schedule for the trial of political trial that only begins in the 20th Congress in July, or after the mid -period surveys of 2025.

“Kaya Naman Po Namin Gusta Nito Pong defect Ay Masimulan Na. Dahil Alam Po Ninyo, Siiempre Tinitingnan Din Po Namin ‘Yung Mga Ebidensya Na Nakalap Po Namin. Eh ‘Yung evidence manipulation, Isa Po’ Yan. Pangalawa Po, ‘Yung Mga witness po Natin, Siyempre Alam Po Natin Baka Mamaya Pag Tumatagal, EH Medyo Marami Po Diyan Ang Matakot, ”Chua said at a separate press conference.

(We really want the trial to begin soon because looking at the evidence we obtained … there is a risk of manipulating evidence, that is one. And witnesses, since this is crawling, many of them could feel scared).

“Habilo tumatagal po ang trial, ang pagsisimula ng Loweachment, nanganganib po ‘Yung mga ebidensya po namin in’ Yung mga witness po namin. “Yan Lang Naman Po Yung sa amin,” Chua added.

(The longer the delay of the political trial, the evidence we have, including witnesses, will be at risk. That is our point here).

Chua said that having fears of testifying is only human nature and that does not facilitate prosecutors.

“That is really a challenge because we need to provide protection to our witnesses. We have to give them security (which is well testified). At the end of the day, it is human to have fears … there is anxiety on his part, ”said Chua.

Then, Chua reiterated section 3.4 of article 11 of the 1987 Constitution that establishes that “in the event that the complaint or verified resolution of judgment is presented at least one third of all members of the Chamber, the same must constitute the articles of political trial, and the trial by the Senate will continue immediately.”

“At the end of the day, this is a constitutional mandate. Ito Po Aylucasyon Na Pinatawag po sa atin ng taumbayan. Sa Amin Naman Po, Kami Naman Po ay ginagampanan din po namin yung obluasyon din po namin ng naayon sa ating saligang batas, ”said Chua.

(This is an obligation to our compatriots. For our part, it is our obligation based on our Constitution).

“The preamble of our Constitution establishes, we the people. It is the people who implore us here, ”added Chua.

THE PREAMBLE OF THE 1987 CONSTITUTION READS “WE, THE SOVEREIGN FILIPINO PEOPLE, IMPORTING THE AID OF ALMIGHTHY GOD, IN ORDER TO BUILD TO JUS AND HUMANE SOCIETY AND ESTABLISH A GOVERNMENT THAT SHALL SHALL EMBODY OURES Ourselves and Our posterity The Blessings of Independence and Democracy under the Rule of Law and A Regime of Truth, Justice, Freedom, Love, Equality, and Paz, order and promulgate this Constitution. “
