Cop Gillo given in 2024 for graft meeting to take another $ 36K in Bribes in case contributes

Singapore – a police officer who was sentenced to 6 years and 6 years in jail in 2024 after receiving $ 32,500 in bribes It has been convicted in a separate case that involves four corruption positions more linked to another $ 36,000.

Poo Tze Chiang, 47, a station inspector of the Secret Societies of the Singapore Police Force (SPF) during both cases of graft, was suspended in December 2020.

In the current case, the Singapurense had received the $ 36,000 for seven months of the Chinese national Chen Guangyun, 39, in exchange for promising to help the latter to avoid prosecution for crimes related to immigration, or reduce the potential punishment he would receive for his pending crimes.

Poo finally did not comply with these promises, and Chen was convicted of his immigration crimes in 2020.

Both men were also judged by bribery, and the JOHN NG district judge condemned each man with four graft positions on February 28.

The attached prosecutors David Menon and Bryan Wong declared in judicial documents that Cen had initially entered Singapore legally on October 20, 2014, but who stayed longer.

On January 25, 2017, it was declared guilty of crimes, including exaggeration before being sentenced to six months in jail and three blows of the cane.

After fulfilling his sentence, he was deported in June of that year and was forbidden to enter Singapore.

The DPP said that he later entered Singapore illegally by boat and the officers of the Immigration Authority and Checks points (Ica) arrested him.

Chen was accused in court again of crimes related to immigration on June 8, 2019.

The court heard that Chen and Poo met for the first time during a drink session at some point in 2019 or around 2019, and held a well -known casual.

Poo then told Cen that he was a police officer and showed him his order card.

After that, Chen told Poo that he had a pending case to enter Singapore illegally.

The DPPS said: “Poo told Cen that he could help Cen with his case in progress and reduce any punishment that Chen can face. Poo asked Cen to pay $ 8,000 in exchange for his help. Chen agreed.

Prosecutors told Judge NG that Cen gave poop to the amount in cash around Geylang Lorong 27 in July or around July 2019.

Approximately a month later, with the case of immigration of Chen still pending, Poo informed Chen that he could make him a police informant, which would allow the Chinese citizen to continue in Singapore after fulfilling his sentence for his crimes related to immigration.

The prosecutors added that Poo also told Cen that he would do it only if the latter agreed to pay him $ 3,000 per month.

The DPPS said: “Chen knew that he would probably face deportation after complying with his sentence, so Chen agreed and signed a” informant contract “provided by the poop. Six times between August 2019 and January 2020, Chen gave Poo $ 3,000.”

In fact, Chen never provided Poo any information.

Some time in August 2019 or around, Poo told Chen that his “boss” supposedly wanted $ 5,000 to make crimes related to the immigration of the Chinese citizen “leave.”

The judicial documents declared that Chen approved the amount around Geylang Lorong 39.

The DPP said that by using a similar reason that involved his “boss”, Poo then asked Cen for another $ 5,000, and the Chinese citizen gave the police officer the bribe or around September to October 2019.

But all this did nothing to relieve Chen’s legal problems.

The charges against Cen were maintained, and on March 30, 2020, he declared himself guilty of a crime of entering Singapore without a valid pass.

He was sentenced to 12 weeks in jail and four blows of the cane before being deported on May 4, 2020.

Chen was in China in early 2021 when he learned that the Office of Corrupt Practices Research (CPIB) was investigating poop for unrelated graft crimes.

Then, Cen contacted the CPIB to inform that he had paid bribes to the poop, and finally communicated with a researcher on this complaint.

Some time in or around March 16, 2021, Chen responded to a questionnaire that the researcher had sent him, and the Chinese citizen confirmed in writing that he paid a total of $ 36,000 to the poop.

The DPPS said: “Still desperate for working in Singapore, Chen returned to Singapore illegally in September or around September 2022.

“In or around April 2023, Chen was arrested by SPF for his participation in a fight. He was referred to Ica for illegally entering Singapore. Chen was accused in court on April 8, 2023. “

These charges are still pending.

During the joint graft trial, Poo and Chen did not testify in court in their own defense.

The DPPS said: “Cen’s defense is not clear … He did not challenge the authenticity, precision or volunteer of the incriminating self -study that he provided (the authorities).

“Poo’s defense seems to be a denial … (he) denied requesting and having received Chen bribes to resolve the crimes related to the immigration of the latter.”

The mitigation and judgment of the couple will take place on April 3.

In his case of previous corruption, POO was sentenced to 6 and a half years after prison and was ordered to pay a fine of $ 32,500 in August 2024.

He had repeatedly helped two men to evade the arrest and received the $ 32,500 in bribes of the couple. Poo had committed these crimes in 2019 and 2020.
