Trump Sign to sign on Friday by designating English as the official language of the United States

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump An executive order is expected to sign on Friday that designates English as the official language of the United States, according to the White House.

The order will allow government agencies and organizations that receive federal funds to choose if they continue to offer documents and services in language other than English, according to an informative sheet on the imminent order.

It was not clear immediately when Trump planned to sign the order on Friday.

The Executive Order will terminate a mandate of the former president Bill Clinton That required that the government and organizations that received federal funds provide linguistic assistance to those who do not speak English.

Appointing English as a national language “promotes unity, establishes efficiency in government operations and creates a path for civic commitment,” according to the White House.

More than 30 states have already approved laws that designate English as their official language, according to US English, a group that advocates making English the official language in the United States.

For decades, legislators in Congress have introduced legislation to designate English as the official language of the United States, but those efforts have not been successful.

A few hours after the inauguration of Trump last month, the new administration eliminated the Spanish version of the official White House website.

Hispanic and others defense groups expressed confusion and frustration for change. The White House said at that time that it was committed to put the Spanish version of the website online. Until Friday, it was not yet restored.

The White House did not immediately respond to a message about whether that would happen.

Trump closed the Spanish version of the website during his first term. It was restored when President Joe Biden was inaugurated.

The Wall Street Journal first reported on Friday’s order.
