Three teenagers charged in Cambridge day shooting

Three teenagers were accused in relation to the ‘shameless’ day shooting in Central Square in Cambridge on Monday, prosecutors said.

The incident was one of the three in a period of 12 hours in Belmont, Cambridge and Somerville earlier this week, The Globe reported.

A 17 -year -old Cambridge faces assault charges with a dangerous weapon, shooting less than 500 feet from a building and four illegal crimes of firearms, said the Office of the Middlesex district prosecutor, Marian Ryan, in a statement.

A 14 -year -old boy from Boston was also accused of assault with a dangerous weapon, while a 15 -year -old boy from Framingham faces accessory charges after the fact and assaulting a police officer, according to the statement.

Around 2:15 pm, an officer of the Cambridge patrol in School Street heard shots in the direction of Bishop Allen Drive, according to the statement.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officer witnessed several suspects who fled the area and asked for help, according to the statement.

The next investigation confirmed that multiple shots were shot, but no one was injured, according to the statement.

The detectives identified the suspects through statements of witnesses and surveillance images, according to the statement. They also obtained a search warrant for the first suspect and found a magazine and ammunition of 30 rounds in their home.

“Armed violence, particularly the violence that involves young people, has been a continuous concern and a priority for the Cambridge Police Department,” said Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine Elow in the statement.

“While it is a luck that no one was injured, that does not mitigate the terrible risk presented by this reckless armed violence,” Ryan said.
