Millwall’s goalkeeper sent for a reckless challenge in the Mateta Palace striker in the FA Cup

London (AP)-Millwall’s goalkeeper, Liam Roberts, was sent only eight minutes from Saturday’s Cup FA match against Crystal Palace after a very reckless challenge in Jean-Philippe Mateta that led the striker to be taken on a stretcher.

Roberts ran out of the 18 -yard box and jumped to clear a long ball, but his high left tracking hit Mateta on the side of the face.

Mateta remained on the ground for several minutes and needed a long medical treatment before being equipped with an orthopedic device and taken out the field towards an ambulance.

“Until now, what we know is that it has a bad wound behind its ear and a head injury,” said the president of the Palace, Steve Parish, to the BBC during part -time rest. “Obviously he is in the hospital, so we expect the best.”

Initially, the referee Michael Oliver did not even show Roberts a yellow card despite being just a few meters from the incident, but then she wielded a straight red after being called by Var to review the incident on a pitchsis monitor.

“I have seen football all the time, I’ve never seen a challenge like this,” said Parish. “That is the most reckless challenge in a football field that I think I have seen.”

Mateta is the top scorer of Palace with 12 goals from the Premier League this season.

Palace led 2-1 in the half-time of the fifth round game. ___
