A 30 -year -old man was arrested under suspicion of the murder of an old man in Dungannon, Tyrone County.

The victim, about 70 years old, was found with following serious injuries An assault on an apartment in the Loaf Park area on Thursday night.

Emergency services were sent to the incident at the Linhull farm, but the man died on the scene.

The arrested man remains in police custody.

Detch Insp Kerrie Foreman said: “Our officers remain on the scene today, while we continue working to establish the complete circumstances that led to this meaningless attack.

“I am appealing to anyone who believes that it can have information that could help us with our research to contact us.”

The attack occurred in a block of floors on the edge of the Linnahull farm around 20:00 GMT on Thursday.

The Northern Ireland ambulance service said he received a call on the incident at 20:13 GMT.

He sent a quick response paramedic, two emergency equipment and an advanced paramedic to the scene.

The Northern Ireland Police Service (PSNI) confirmed that they were treating their death as murder on Friday.

Supt Peter Stevenson said the victim “was seriously injured on the floor of the living room of the property.”

His friends and neighbors left flowers and candles near the assault scene, while prayers were also said.

Matthew Kozowski, who attended the vigil, said he had met the victim for more than 16 years and described him as a “gentleman.”
