Turmeric prices at Pico at RS 7,000

Karimnagar: Turmeric prices have declined sharply in the districts of Jagtial and Nizamabad, leaving farmers staggering despite the formation of the Turmeric Board, which was expected to reinforce support for producers. Last year, a quintal of turmeric obtained between RS 17,000 and 18,000 rs, but this year, prices have lived in around RS 7,000.

The sudden price drop has caused generalized discontent among farmers, particularly in the Jagtial district, where many expanded their turmeric cultivation by up to 10,000 acres in advance of greater profits. Lacking adequate storage facilities, these farmers are often forced to sell their products to private companies with a significant loss in the main markets such as Metpally, Jagtial and Nizamabad.

In response to these challenges, local farmers urge the Turmeric Board to take immediate measures to stabilize prices and improve support for their products. They are asking the authorities to intervene, mitigate losses and obtain fair yields for their arduous work and investment.
