Canadian rider Derek Gee increases leadership in or a large road Race in Spain

Or Cebreiro – Canadian Derek Gee joined his general advantage in the cycling or great road in Spain on Saturday after finishing Sergio Chumil’s runner -up in Guatemala in the fourth stage.

Ottawa’s 27-year-old player, who is driving for the Israel-Mier technology team, went to general leadership on Friday after winning the individual time trial.

Gee has a 37 -second advantage over Davanzoli in Italy in the final stage of Sunday.

Danish pilot Magnus Cort, who entered the stage on Saturday in second place only five seconds behind Gee, fell third in general, 49 seconds behind the leader.

Israel’s technology teammate, Hugo Houle, occupies 38th in general after finishing 51º on Saturday.

Gee, who fought against Chumil in the final category 3, Alto de Cereiro, after they threw the other riders, accredited their teammates for their help.

“The boys were incredible. I really expected to get to the victory of the stage with that for all the hard work they did,” he said. “But I couldn’t go alone in the climb.”

The end of Sunday covers 165.3 kilometers, ending in Santiago de Compostela after a difficult rise in category 3 with 20 kilometers to travel followed by three challenging gravel sections.

Gee last led a race in the criterium du Dauphiné last June in France, spending a day in the yellow shirt coincided with an individual counterreloj.

Gee was promoted to the Israel-Mier Tech WorldTour team since its academy in May 2022. He signed a new long-term agreement in June 2023 after his performance in his debut in the great tour in the D’Italia 2023 turn when he finished second four times and a quarter twice.

Gee finally finished 22 in the final general classification classification and was runner -up of Italy Jonathan Milan in the Points race and Thibaut Pinot of France in the classification of the King of the Mountains.

Gee was also honored as the “super combative rider” of rotation. Gee followed him at the end of Ninth in the Tour de France last summer.

The Canadian is scheduled to lead Israel’s technological team in this year’s turn, which will take place from May 9 to June 1.

Gee lost two months of races last year after breaking the clavicle in an accident in Belgium.

It ended 44th in the Olympic race last summer in Paris and was the best Canadian in the individual counterreloj, placing the 20th.

In September, Gee was 22 at the individual time trial in the World UCI road championship in Zurich. The road race did not finish.

Gee is also an consummated track cyclist, fifth in the search for the team at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020, the best Olympic result in Canada in the event since 1932. In 2019, it was part of the Canadian team that finished fourth in the search for the team in the World UCI sight championship.
