Glasner says that Mateta has ‘bad wound behind her ear and a head injury’ after horror challenge against Millwall

Jean-Philippe Mateta was taken urgently to the hospital during Crystal PalaceThe FA Cup game against Millwall after a horror challenge by goalkeeper Liam Roberts.

Roberts flew to Mateta with a high boot in the eighth minute and was loaded with how dangerous the challenge was.

Oliver Glasner provided an update after the game: “He is in the hospital. He is aware but has a serious injury in the ear. Let’s see what happens. That is my first information. I hope you can understand that it is difficult to talk about the game.

“I couldn’t see it in real time during the game. I didn’t want to see him after the game, but because we have to talk about it, I saw him. It was a very serious dirty game.

“It was difficult to see it, and I don’t want to see it anymore. The good thing was that he did not give his face directly with all the power, since it would have been the end of his career.

“I am quite sure that (Roberts) I didn’t want to hurt him in this situation. But, you can’t do it this way either. The risk of a serious injury was too high. The goalkeeper made the wrong decision at the time.

“Athletes do not want to hurt players. I believe in the clean game, but the decision to go to the ball with the foot at that height and intensity was the wrong decision.

“I don’t feel happiness (with the result today); I am sad and in doubt about how serious JP’s injury is. My fingers are crossed so I can play in the quarterfinals in four weeks.

“When you see your teammate carried on a stretcher with an oxygen mask, nobody wants to see this. You will not want to see anyone happens, (especially) to a teammate or a friend. It made it difficult. Credit to the team to remain focused. “

Palace won the 3-1 game, but the result was of secondary importance after the incident that occurred.
