SUSAD degradation support services due to lack of funds

The beneficial organization of the intervention of suicide and support of duel has announced that it is to close its messaging service due to the lack of funds.

The organization has been fighting in recent months with a lack of resources and a greater demand for its services, even in Meath.

Its messaging service that costs € 4,000 per month to work is scheduled to close as of today, Tuesday, March 4.

SUSAD has been providing vital services for prevention and suicide duel in the Northeast since 2007 and provides support from six offices in Navan, Dundalk, Drughetda, Cavan, Monaghan and Laois. It also provides remote advice and operates a dissemination service.

In a publication on social networks, Sos said that he is “devastated” to announce the closure of his messaging service.

“This is a decision that we never wanted to make, but with the lack of sustainable financing, difficult decisions have to be made to ensure that we can continue to provide the support we can,” he said.

The organization described the service as “crucial for many”, adding that “its loss is really heartbreaking.”

However, Sos said he is “fighting every day” to maintain the open organization.

“If you can, consider donating us, each contribution helps us to continue supporting those who need it most,” the publication concluded.

Last year, SUSAD said he delivered 21,402 hours of free advice, more than 20% in the figure of 2023.

The SUSAD messaging support service, which must end, operated daily from 8pm to 12 am

During these times, a person could send a message through the organization’s website to a volunteer, after which the individual could receive a derivation to one of the SUSAD offices to obtain additional support, if necessary.

The Ministers of Health and the Local Government TD must intervene to protect essential mental health services in Susad Ireland according to Meath East TD Darren O’Rourke, who said:

“This is devastating news. The Minister of Health, the Junior Minister of Mental Health and our local TD FF/FG/IND should intervene to ensure that SUSAD IRLANDA is financed and can continue to provide these essential mental health services.”

Meanhile speaking on the agenda with Ken Murray at LMFM yesterday Meath East TD and Minister of European Affairs Thomas Byrne said that the government will help Susad to obtain funds from the HSE.

“It is a bit ironic because the HSE themselves use the service, they send people to the service, but they have certain requirements before they can finance it. I am not saying this service in particular, but only financing in general. But we are willing to do what we can to ensure that this is, that SUSAD obtains the financing that has clearly shown that it needs and deserves in the sense that the service it provides is really good.”
