Prince William and Prince Harry may still be taking space from one anotherbut when remembering their late mother, Princess Dianain his documentary, the eldest sibling gave a nod to his younger brother.

In the upcoming two-part docuseries Prince William: We Can End Homelessnessthe Prince of Wales recalls a transformative childhood moment he and Harry shared. A preview clip released on Saturday (October 26) shows the royal speaking about how he became involved in charity work and finding solutions for the homeless crisis. The royal then opens up about how his mother introduced him and Harry to The Passage, a UK charity for the homeless, when they were still young.

“My mother took me to The Passage; she took Harry and I both there. “I must have been 11 at the time, maybe 10,” William recalls. “I had never been to anything like that before, and I was a bit anxious about what to expect.”

“My mother went about her usual, making everyone feel relaxed, having a laugh and joking with everyone. I remember at the time kind of thinking, ‘Well, if everyone doesn’t have a home, they’re all going to be really sad.’ But it was incredible how happy an environment it was,” he adds.

In the clip, William notes that the visit gave him some perspective, and made him aware of his privilege.

“I remember having some good conversations, playing chess, chatting, and that’s when it dawned on me that there were other people out there who don’t have the same life as you do,” he muses. “You know, when you’re quite small, you just think life is what you see in front of you and you don’t really have a concept to look elsewhere. It’s when you meet people, like I did then, who put a different perspective in your head and say, ‘Well, I was living on the street last night,’ and you’re like, ‘Whoa.’ I remember that happening.”

While brief, his retelling of the moment with Princess Di and Harry marks the first time William has spoken publicly about his brother since their estrangement. The brothers had a fall out after Harry decided to step down as a senior member of the royal family and move away from England with his wife Meghan Markle. The rift only got worse when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released their Netflix documentary—in which they got candid about life in the British royal family—and Harry debuted his 2023 memoir, Sparea project where he wrote about always being treated second-best to William.

Still, Harry has voiced hope that he and his older brother will mend ties in the near future and that their families will be closer.

William’s docuseries will premiere on November 1 on Disney+ and will be televised on October 30 and 31 on ITV in the UK
