Traders disrupt traffic with road invasions

Traders in Sriganganagar’s Gol Bazar area have once again caused serious traffic congestion by encroaching on roads, prompting the traffic police to intervene today. Traffic in-charge Raghubir Singh Bika along with a team removed goods placed by traders around Ambedkar Chowk, Gandhi Chowk, Kedar Chowk and roads leading to Kotwali and Old Grain Market.

With the arrival of winter, Gol Bazar merchants begin placing goods in front of their shops, narrowing the road from its original 80 feet to just 20 feet. Travel between Ambedkar Chowk and Gandhi Chowk is becoming increasingly difficult. Authorities noted that efforts to improve the traffic situation in this area had been difficult, as “traders do not change their habits.”

Earlier in October, the traffic police had tried to address the issue. “In the presence of MP Jaideep Bihani, the traders promised that they would improve the system in seven days, but they did nothing.”

Meanwhile, city police arrested two youths accused of stealing valuables from electronics stores. Ankit Tuli (27), a resident of Shivalik Colony, and Shiv Dhanak (24), a resident of Kunj Vihar Colony, were arrested. Police station in-charge Prithvipal Singh stated that the accused were identified through CCTV footage.
