Proposed trade with Raiders would net No. 1 pick for colossal package of picks

He Las Vegas Raiders have seriously hurt their draft positioning over the past two weeks, with two consecutive meaningless wins moving them away from No. 1 to No. 8. And it’s possible the Raiders could fall even further in Week 18.

If the Raiders manage to achieve a third consecutive victory in the final game of the regular season against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Las Vegas may drop another spot or two depending on the results of the chicago bears‘ and New Orleans Saints‘games. With a win, the Raiders would lose a spot for each team that loses.

However, if the Raiders lose, they can still move up, with their highest possible spot being the No. 4 pick. Of course, the higher Las Vegas finishes, the better their chances of landing one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL draft. this year.

Finishing at or near his current position doesn’t prevent the Raiders from landing a top pick in the draft, but they will likely need a trade to do so, which could prove very costly in terms of draft capital.

In a recent mock draft by Patriots Wire’s Cam GarrityImagine a scenario in which the New England Patriots end up with the No. 1 pick and turn around and trade it to the Raiders, who are sitting at No. 8 in the mock.

The package the Raiders are giving up in the proposed trade is huge. Garrity has Las Vegas trading the No. 8 overall pick, along with a 2025 second-rounder and a first- and third-rounder in 2026 and 2027.

With the number one pick in the mock, the Raiders select Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, giving them a much-needed young quarterback to take them into the future. This is what Garrity wrote:

New England Businesses: First round of 2025 (No. 1)

Las Vegas businesses: 2025 first round (No. 8), 2025 second round (No. 39), 2026 first round, 2026 third round, 2027 first round, 2027 third round

The trade allows the Las Vegas Raiders to select their quarterback of the future, Shedeur Sanders, while the Patriots stockpile premium assets for future drafts.

To be clear, the Patriots are not yet locked in at the No. 1 pick. A loss in Week 18 would secure the top pick, but a win would send them in the other direction. The Pats tie a matchup with the buffalo billswho will have their starters playing limited snapswith quarterback Josh Allen included in that group.

“What we’re going to do is you’re going to see some starters playing and you’re going to see other players that we want to take a good look at. So it’s going to be a combination of both,” Bills says. coach Sean McDermott said.

The rebuilding Patriots would almost certainly accept such a deal, but would the Raiders really be willing to give up that much?

Never say never for a team that desperately needs a quarterback, but this proposed deal doesn’t seem realistic. Of course, it will take a lot of effort to jump seven spots, but based on a recent trade, it shouldn’t take that long.

In 2023, the carolina panthers rose from position 1 to 9 in an agreement with the chicago bears. In that trade, the Panthers gave up wide receiver DJ Moore and two first-rounders, including No. 9 overall in 2023, and two second-rounders.

The Raiders would really have to believe in Sanders to pull off a trade like the one Garrity suggests. But if it comes close to what the Panthers gave up for the No. 1 pick in 2023, Las Vegas should pull the trigger.
