Bangkok Post – Patient killed in shooting in northeast Thailand

SURIN: A 27-year-old young man. patient recovering of a surgery in Surin Hospital it was fatally shot by police after him refused leave a weapon and charged against them, local authorities said Saturday.

The incident took place Friday in a patient room on the fourth floor of Building 9 when Apichai (no last name), recovering from an appendectomy, grabbed a firefighter’s ax and chased doctors, nurses and other patients.

Two patrol cars arrived to intervene. They told Apichai to drop the axe, but he approached with the gun, triggering the shot. Apichai later succumbed to gunshot wounds.

Pol Maj Weerapan na Lampang, Muang Surin police chief, ordered an investigation into the shooting and promised justice for all those involved.

A complaint was also filed with the police station to initiate a criminal investigation against the patrol officers.
