Prosecutors are looking for 15 years in jail for the man who attacked Kishida

Public prosecutors demanded on Monday that a 25 -year -old man accused of murder attempt and other positions for presenting an explosive to the then Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during an electoral campaign speech in Wakayama Prefecture in 2023 is sentenced to 15 years in prison .

The attack was “a malicious act of terrorism” that indiscriminately wounded many people, prosecutors said during a hearing in the Ryuji Kimura trial in the Wakayama district court.

The defense said that Kimura had no murderous intention and was only guilty of inflicting bodily injuries.

Kimura is accused of hurting two people by throwing an explosive with murderous intention in Kishida and others who visited a fishing port in the city of Wakayama on April 15, 2023.

The court will issue its ruling on February 19.

The Prosecutor’s Office argued that the explosive device had a lethal potential, and that since the defendant he did, he understood the danger he raised.

Kimura’s defense team said there was a period of time of approximately a minute between when the explosive device and its explosion were launched, and noted that the pipe -full pipe had shot up.

Kimura did not recognize that the lethality of the device, argued the defense, adding that the injuries occurred because a crowd had formed after being arrested.

He said that three years in prison was an appropriate punishment for his actions.

“I am very sorry for the problem that I have caused to all,” Kimura told the court in his final statement.
