Increased police presence at West Newbury school after social networks threats

In social networks a threat was made against the regional intermediate and secondary school of Pentucket in West Newbury.

On Wednesday, the West Newbury Police Department was notified by a social media platform of a threat that was published online against Pentucket Regional Secondary and Secondary School. Police immediately informed the school district, and an investigation was launched, authorities said in a press release.

The student who published the threat was quickly identified, authorities said. The names of the student and social networks platform were not launched.

There was a greater police presence at school on Wednesday. The additional police were expected to be at school on Thursday.

Families were remembered to talk with their children about the “dangers of misuse of social networks and the serious consequences it can bring.”

“Student safety is our priority. We are always committed to work with our communities to ensure that schools are safe and that all children can learn safely, ”said police chief Michael Dwyer.

The incident remains under investigation by West Newbury police.
