Maine can expect a single blow of the winter climate, according to the National Meteorological Service in Gray. Dangerous winds are expected to be followed by a significant winter storm on Saturday and Sunday.

Strong northwest winds are expected that are expected up to 50 mph throughout Friday, particularly in the mountains where wind notices remain in force until 7 pm, the NWS warns that these stocked conditions could blow around not guaranteed and potentially cause objects to cause dispersed interruptions from the extremities of fallen trees.

The wind will mark the beginning of bitter and cold temperatures on Friday night, with a single digit that is expected in much of the region. Franklin, Oxford and Somerset counties are under a cold weather warning, since chills could dive into 20 degrees below zero.

After a brief postponement on Saturday morning, the NWS expects snow to spread throughout the region on Saturday night, with the potential for significant accumulations. The forecasts expect 8-12 inches of snow in much of the center of Maine, including the areas of Augusta and Lewiston, while parts of the west of Maine near Rangelley could see 10-16 inches.

The storm becomes more complex on Sunday as the warmest air moves high, probably changing snow to a winter mixture of aguanieve and frozen rain in some areas. NWS notes This system will be followed by another round of strong and racing winds and fall temperatures on Monday.

Motorists are recommended to use additional caution, particularly high -profile vehicles, since racious winds could make driving until Friday night before the winter storm conditions take place for the weekend.
