Gwinnett County schools will not advance with a transparent stock market policy for students after a recent pilot program failed to relieve security concerns, authorities said.

Previous History: Gwinnett County Schools that consider a new clear backpack policy

The district tested clear backpacks in 33 schools from January to the beginning of February 2025, according to the Gwinnett County Public Schools Website. The comments of the students, the families and the staff were mixed. Some participants saw clear backpacks as an additional security layer, while others expressed concerns about privacy, durability and comfort. Many students and parents were uncomfortable with personal items, such as wallets and hygiene products, exposed.

Although the district will not implement the policy throughout the county, some schools may choose to maintain the requirement on their campus.

In addition, the authorities said they will explore other security measures in the future, including the installation of arms detectors in intermediate and secondary schools and a greater presence of school resource officers.

Gwinnett County schools say they are committed to guaranteeing the safety of students and said more details would be announced about the next initiatives in the coming weeks.
