A Broward woman is critical after her son supposedly attacked her and another man with a machete on Monday night in Pembroke Pins, according to the police and the neighbors.

Darrell Dean Roberts, 38, was arrested after the officers responded to multiple calls to 911 about an armed suspect in the enchanted residential community near the southwest of 190th Avenue and 15th Street.

According to the police, the attack began shortly before 5:30 pm, when a service worker who made repairs at the house was suddenly assaulted by Roberts. The worker suffered serious injuries and required emergency medical care.

A woman identified by the neighbors when Roberts’s mother tried to intervene, but was then attacked. She suffered injuries that threaten life and was transferred by plane to the Memorial Regional Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

CBS News Miami spoke with the neighbors who said the son cut the woman’s fingers and hit her on the head several times.

The police arrived at the scene and quickly arrested Roberts. He has been accused of two positions of homicide attempt and is detained in Broward County prison.

The authorities said the incident is considered of a domestic nature and that there is no continuous threat to the community.
