State prosecutors make holes in Modack’s testimony

Cabo del Cabo – On Thursday, state prosecutors continued making holes in the testimony of Kingpin Underworld, Nafiz Modack.

Modack and another 14 face 122 charges for several crimes, including murders, extortion, fraud and money laundering.

Modack is being questioned this week to give an account of its evidence in chief.

State Prosecutor Greg Wolmarans questioned why Modack continued to make alleged extortion payments to Jeremy Venarey after the former superior policeman arrested his wife in October 2018.

The evidence shows that Modack made several payments ascending more than R1 million to an intermediary before and after his wife’s arrest.

Judge Robert Henney told Modack that it seemed strange why, after making all those payments, Vearey still arrested his wife.

Modack told the Court that he continued to pay the payments because at that time he feared that Vearey was behind the murder of his lawyer Pete Mihailik and the attempted murder of his friend, alleged gang chief, Colin Booysen.

The evidence of the Hawks shows that the payments were for the intermediary, but never ended with Vearey.

The trial continues.
