Metro Sergeant Accused of Possessing Child Porn Posts $100,000 Cash Bail

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) – Sergeant Kevin Menon, suspended from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, posted his $100,000 cash bail on Saturday, according to Las Vegas Justice Court records.

Menon is no longer in custody at the Clark County Detention Center.

Currently, Menon has two criminal cases pending against him.

Earlier this month, Menon was indicted by a grand jury on charges of oppression, assault and perjury. He is accused of using his powers as a police officer to create illegal arrests on the Las Vegas Strip.

This week, Menon was arrested for a second time at the Regional Justice Center before his arraignment hearing because police said Detectives found child pornography on two of his devices..

On Thursday, lawyers for both sides argued over bail.

Deputy District Attorneys Nick Portz and Christopher Hamner said Menon is a danger to the community and a flight risk.

State prosecutors argued that Menon victimized people both at work and at home.

They asked for a cash bail of $250,000.

But Menon’s lawyer, Dominic Gentile, asked for bail of $10,000. He said the only question in this case is whether Menon will appear in court.

Gentile argued that Menon appeared in court on Tuesday but could not attend his hearing because police arrested him.

While prosecutors asked Judge Nadia Wood to order the confiscation of Menon’s firearms and passports, Gentile said he already has them in possession.

Ultimately, Judge Wood set cash bail at $100,000, finding concern about the allegations in both cases against Menon.

Channel 13 spoke with a relative of Menon who called the accusations against Menon “absurd.”

Menon is due back in court on Nov. 6 for his initial arraignment on the allegation.

His preliminary hearing in the child sexual abuse material case is scheduled for November 7.
