After a 30-15 loss to Georgia in Week 8, the Texas Longhorns needed a rebound.

He earned a 27-24 victory over Vanderbilt to accomplish this, although it was a little too close for comfort.

The Commodores gained early momentum after getting an interception from Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers. Vanderbilt would convert this into a touchdown moments later and had Texas under surveillance.

That’s when the Longhorns returned fire, scoring three consecutive touchdowns before a field goal in the final seconds by the Commodores made the score 21-10 at the half.

The Longhorns restored the 14-point lead with a field goal, but a Vanderbilt touchdown brought the Commodores within seven. However, multiple interceptions and another field goal sealed the victory for the Longhorns.

The Texas defense forced three turnovers and limited the Commodores to just 261 total yards. Quintrevion Wisner was the Longhorns’ leading rusher with 79 yards on 17 carries, while DeAndre Moore was the leading receiver with six receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

Ewers was 27 of 37 for 288 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. While it wasn’t a perfect day, it was an improved performance that should bode well for the rest of the season.

Fans took to social media to hype Ewers and the Longhorns’ redemption performance.

I don’t mind! Me Quinn Ewers, in a football sense!

It’s not an easy victory… but a victory is a victory! Good response from @QuinnEwers this week. Those 2 picks were fluke passes and when the line blocked Quinn played well. See you next week! @TexasFootball

Surviving the Commodores was a huge advantage for the Longhorns, as Vanderbilt beat then-No. 1 Alabama earlier in the month and entered the game ranked 25th in the nation.

Texas has four games remaining in the regular season, with Texas A&M being the only currently ranked opponent. If the Longhorns can finish the season strong, they will have a very good case to make the College Football Playoff.
