Pennsylvania GOP says it received bomb threat and closed Montgomery County headquarters

The Pennsylvania Republican Party said it received a bomb threat on Saturday, forcing it to close its Montgomery County committee headquarters.

The GOP reports that staff received a phone call around 11 a.m., alleging that the caller communicated an angry, profanity-laced bomb threat.

The party issued the following statement in a press release to the media:

Today’s incident is one of a growing number of threats, violence and acts of intimidation against Republican Party candidates, offices and staff this cycle, in addition to two assassination attempts against President Donald Trump.

“Nothing will stop us from working to elect those who will put our country back on track,” said President Lawrence Tabas. “And there should be unanimous agreement that political violence has no place in our elections, especially after an innocent Butler County husband and father lost his life to political violence. “We strongly urge Pennsylvanians to express their opinions through voting, not through violence and intimidation.”
