Jackson County Jr. Livestock Hosts Livestock Show, Auction

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WLOX) – One little pig went to market and the other little pigs were at the Jackson County Fair!

38 animals were displayed to the crowd at Saturday’s livestock show.

“This is Brownie. “She’s like the sweetest goat we have on our farm,” says Vivian Dunsworth, a member of the 4H livestock club.

Since May, the club’s children have been raising animals as educational projects, promoting agriculture and meat production.

“4H is a great learning opportunity, especially for people who want to learn or learn about animals, so I think the livestock club is the perfect club for people who want to learn about livestock,” says Nylah Sullivan, member of the club.

4H is a national network of youth organizations.

Dunsfield owner Heidrun Farms says the livestock club in particular has made a difference in her children’s lives.

“It has really changed them. It has taught them sportsmanship and how to be good animal caregivers,” says Ashley Dunsford.

One of the prize goats from the show was Russell the Muscle.

“I think he’s one of the best goats of all time and I think I’m too attached to him.”

After the show, a market auction allowed community members to bid on the livestock. This was the first market auction held in Jackson County since the 1980s.

All money raised will be reinvested in the club’s youth programs and future agricultural projects.

October 27 is the last day of the Jackson County Fair at the Jackson County Fairgrounds.
