Joe Lumley makes his debut in the Premier League. He is the third goalkeeper to start for Southampton in the competition this season (also Aaron Ramsdale and Alex McCarthy), one of two teams to start with 3+ goalkeepers this season, along with Bournemouth.

Each of the last three goalkeepers to make their first Premier League start for Southampton conceded at least 3+ goals: Willy Caballero (December 2021 vs. Arsenal), Gavin Bazunu (August 2022 vs. Spurs) and Aaron Ramsdale ( August 2024 against Brentford). The last to keep a clean sheet in his first start for the club in the division was Angus Gunn against Chelsea in January 2019.

Meanwhile, Danny Welbeck has started each of Brighton’s last 14 Premier League games – the longest streak of starts in his career for any club in the competition.
