Dan Campbell reacts to Jahmyr Gibbs accidentally leaking confidential Lions information

Detroit Lions Running back Jahmyr Gibbs recently posted a photo of his teammate and fellow running back Jermar Jefferson on social media, but what he didn’t take into account was what was behind his teammate.

In what was obviously an oversight, Gibbs’ photo of Jefferson had a whiteboard in the background listing the team’s throwback protections. The Lions running back has since deleted the post, but as we know, everything posted on the internet lives forever thanks to screenshots.

When asked about Gibbs’ mistake on Saturday, head coach Dan Campbell said he was not aware of what happened and would look into it further.

“Oh, I didn’t know.” Campbell responded. “Yeah, I need to check. I didn’t know. Yeah, I’d rather our stuff wasn’t out there.”

The blunder will likely lead to the Lions having to change things, at least as far as what’s shown in Gibbs’ photo. The offensive coaching staff, led by offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, isn’t going to like that, and neither are the rest of the players on offense.

The good news for the Lions is that they have an elite offensive line that is so good that even knowing the protections might not help the opposing defense. Still, the Lions would do well to adapt.

This is yet another example of the dangers of social media for public figures. We’ll see if Gibbs gets in trouble for this. It certainly won’t help that he didn’t tell his head coach immediately. Campbell can’t be happy that he doesn’t know anything about this.

Gibbs’ mistake is a setback in what has been a fantastic start to his race so far. The former first-round pick earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2023 after totaling 1,261 yards from scrimmage, a mark he is five yards away from matching.

He’s also just 27 rushing yards shy of his first 1,000-yard season and needs one more touchdown to surpass his rookie mark.
