Devils’ Dougie Hamilton fined for embellishments

Perhaps NHL disciplinarians were inspired after watching Canada’s dunk-filled game against the Czechs at the World Juniors on Thursday.

Either way, New Jersey Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton was fined $2,000 in supplemental discipline for diving/feathering by the NHL, the league announced Friday.

Hamilton was warned after NHL hockey operations flagged an incident during the Devils’ game against the Edmonton Oilers on Nov. 4. His second citation earned him a $2,000 fine for an incident at 9:12 of the second period in a Dec. 23 game against the New York Rangers. Hamilton and Rangers forward Brett Berard received minor penalties for the play.

The NHL’s hockey operations department monitors all games and flags any diving or embellishment incidents that warrant further discipline under Rule 64.

The fine money goes to the players’ emergency assistance fund.
