Man, 83, seriously injured when SUV collides with the school bus on Tuesday near Salina

Salina, Kan. (Wibw) -A 83-year-old man was seriously injured on Tuesday afternoon when the sports utility vehicle collided with a school bus that transported 23 people on the northwest side of Salina, authorities said.

Three people, the driver and two students, on the school bus were taken to a hospital in the area for the treatment of injuries that were not considered to threaten life, authorities said.

The collision was informed at 3:55 pm on Tuesday on the US-81 highway in the north direction, just north of the 70s.

According to the Kansas road patrol, a 2024 SUV Buick Encore 2024 merged with US-81 in the north direction from the I-70 to the west and turned left in front of a Blue Bird 2017 school bus.

The patrol said the school bus and the buick collided, and the Buick rested through the medium center and the left shoulder of the road. The school bus, meanwhile, hit the railing and stopped in the middle of the center.

The Buick driver, Marvin Leroy Steenbock, from Longford, was transported to the Salina Regional Health Center with suspicion of serious injury. The patrol said Steenbock, who was alone in the SUV, wore the seat belt.

The school bus driver, Lelisa Dawn Gilbert, 29, from Chase, was taken to the Salina Regional Health Center with suspicions of minor injuries. The patrol said Gilbert wore the seat belt.

Two 14 -year -old girls who were on the school bus were also taken to the Salina Regional Health Center with alleged minor injuries, said the patrol.
