Ex subpostmaster or to obtain a £ 600k payment

A former sub-postmaster of Belfast who was unjustly convicted of fraud as a result of the Post Office is to receive £ 600,000 in compensation.

Payment is the maximum available under the repair scheme established to compensate for people trapped in the accounting scandal throughout the United Kingdom.

The man has not been identified, but his lawyer Victoria Trainor described the prize as a “total claim.”

“For 15 years he had to live with the shame and indignity of having a conviction for crimes he never committed,” he said.

Mrs. Trainor, from Belfast Krw Law’s firm, said the agreement “helps eliminate the great stain against its name.”

The man was between more than 900 subpostmasters from all over the United Kingdom that were erroneously prosecuted For crimes such as theft and false accounting during the scandal.

The defective software made it seem to miss money at the branches of the Post Office when there were no robberies.

The software system, known as Horizon, was developed by the Japanese company Fujitsu, for tasks such as accounting and storage.

Horizon was introduced by the Post Office in 1999.

The man of Belfast was accused of fraud and, after taking legal advice, initially declared himself guilty of seven false accounting positions.

He received a suspended prison sentence and was ordered to pay £ 1,500 allegedly stolen from the Post Office.

But after the scandal on Horizon’s defects, man’s convictions were annulled in September last year.

In December, he received a provisional compensation payment of £ 200,000 of the unfair sentences under the horizon’s condemnation scheme.

KRW Law announced on Wednesday that his client has now secured a final agreement of £ 600,000.

It is believed that it is among the first recipients, perhaps even the first, to ensure the maximum available payment.

“Like many of the other victims, he has been completely depressing for him to live with this type of stigma,” said Mrs. Trainor.

“While no amount of money will compensate for the terrible experience that passed, the payment is undoubtedly an improvement of life and allows you to move forward with your life.”
