The former CPD officer, Adam Coy, seeks a new judgment on claims for retained evidence

The former Columbus police officer, Adam Coy, convicted of murder, appeared in the court on Monday while looking for a new trial.

His defense team argued that prosecutors did not reveal crucial evidence during the initial trial.

The defense states that prosecutors retained information from an expert in police use of the force, who, according to reports, found the actions of Coy justified in the death of Andre Hill’s shots.

“We are not saying a specific accusation here, but what we know in fact is that they talked to an expert who gave a superficial opinion,” said Coy’s lawyer Mark Collins. “That happens in these types of cases; then, that must be transferred to us. That must be delivered.”

The Prosecutor’s Office replied that the records in question are protected as part of a lawyer’s work and denied any cover -up.

Coy was sentenced the autumn past for the murder of Andre Hill, who was disarmed when Coy shot him in a dark garage more than four years ago. Coy testified that he confused a set of keys in Hill’s hand with a gun.

Coy remains in jail, facing a 15 -year sentence to life imprisonment. However, your sentence is waiting for the result of the request for trial, and a decision is expected in April.
