A powerful swell of the Northwest is bringing dangerously high waves to the islands today, which caused a high surf warning and a great warning of the National Meteorological Service. The waves, which is expected to reach the afternoon, will create dangerous conditions along the coasts oriented to the north and west, with strong waves and dangerous currents.

The National Meteorological Service has issued a great surf warning for the north and west coasts of Kauai, Oahu and Molokai County, as well as the northern coast of Maui. Waves from 20 to 28 feet are expected along the coasts oriented to the north, while the coasts oriented to the west could see surf from 15 to 24 feet. The warning is in force until 6 pm today.

Meteorological officials urge the public to stay away from the affected coasts, warning that powerful waves could create dangerous conditions. The strong currents and waves that break in the channel entrances can also represent a threat to navigators. Residents and visitors must be prepared for possible road closures near coastal areas.

A great surfing is also in force for the west coast of Hawaii island from today until 6 in the morning on Thursday. Surf heights are expected to reach 7 to 10 feet, creating strong and currents of hangover. Meteorological officials advise beach spectators to pay attention to all warnings and avoid swimming in affected areas.

Beyond surfing, a cold front that is approaching from the northwest will increase the possibilities of rain in parts of the state. Moderate winds are expected from south to southeast later today and the rest of the week. For the weekend, the driest conditions with light commercial winds can return as a surface crest moves north. Another weakening cold front could bring additional showers earlier next week.
