Why has Rugby Club Avengers not been so dominant?

The Rugby Avengers Club of Enterbbe was not exercised so much during the seventh and last circuit of the National Rugby Championship of Sevens Nile in October last year, which was held in King’s Park, BweyGere.

They had already done enough in the previous ones, winning four of the six. This meant that a quarterfinal placement in the seventh circuit was enough to make sure they were the indisputable Sevens 2024 champions.

However, in the best case, they have been average in the Rugby Special Rugby Premier ongoing (since January), version 15s of the game. And while they receive the apparent elected champions, the black pearls in Encobe this weekend, 13 points behind them on the table, the questions persist; What has exactly wrong?

After five games, the Avengers have registered only two victories, losing twice and drawing once. Perhaps, the raffle was the only intriguing of the Avengers season so far, considering that it happened last weekend against the sheep, a Makerere team that is the second from below in the seven team league.

It was a 5-5 draw. Clearly, the two parts were so bad that they could only handle an attempt each during the 80 minutes of play. In fact, Fazirah Namukweaya, a player with the Avengers, who starred during the Sevens last year, to the point that he even obtained a call from the national team, could not hide how shameful it was the result last weekend.

Namukweaya said: “While it is normal for teams to fight, our performances have been bad. Of course, rugby 15 and 7s is very different, since the dynamics and requirements to succeed vary significantly. But as players, some of us have not demonstrated the necessary commitment to succeed. ”

On the opening day of the season, due to the good that the Avengers had been working for a few months, it was greatly promoted in the preparation of their game against the Thunderbirds in Kyadando. Inevitably, a team that possesses the captain of the national team, Peace Lekuru, among others, would give Rugby fans a good game with at least Samiya Ayikoru, Patricia Ank and Janat Nandudu.

But it turned out that the Avengers did not appear, losing 0-36. Worse, this is a result that flattered the Enterbbe team. It could have been 0-80. But first, Lekuru did not play, just like some others. And this is where the problems of the Avengers begin: the lack of a complete team.

Michelle Kampire, the manager of the Avengers team, said they have fought to have a complete team, especially with some of their stars in the configuration of national team 7S, which has prepared for the HSBC Challenger series, which starts this weekend in Cape Town, South Africa.

In addition, observers say that although the 7S team needs only 12 players to complete, the 15 need a total of 23. However, the avengers have worked to form a complete team during training. Apparently, some sessions have only 10 players, which has led to their dismantled screens.

Without the players training consistently, even their physical condition throughout the field has been wanting, leaving them vulnerable and there for the shot. Inevitably, this weekend should be a good exercise for visitors, black pearls, since it is unlikely that the avengers stop a challenge to their walk to another coronation.
