Auburn Israel Okon Time World U20 records in the SEC Championship

Bryan-College Station, Texas—Chestnut freshman Israel Okon It matched a World U20 record on the 60 -meter men’s board on Friday with a 6.51 to lead the efforts of the tigers on the second day of the SEC Interior Athletics Championship. Also on Friday, seven Auburn athletes were classified for the end of Saturday, including Vimbayi Maisorewa, which broke their own school record in the 400m female.

The 6,51 OKON time coincided with a 24-year-old U20 World record led by Mark Lewis-Francis in Great Britain on March 11, 2001 in Lisbon, Portugal. Native of Asaba, Nigeria, Okon won its heat of the 60 men’s meters with the fastest classification time during the preliminaries and their teammate tied Kanyinsola Ajayi during the fastest time of the NCAA this season. Ajayi and Azeem Fahmi also advanced to the 60s after publishing times of 6.57 and 6.61, respectively. The Tiger Trio will run in the final at 4:25 PM CT on Saturday.

Maisvorewa, an All-American 400m season, directed the best inner race of his career in the new school record while ending sixth to pass to the finals on Saturday at 4:50 pm

The second year students Ja’kobe Tharp, Max Hardin and Ana-Liesa Torian had strong shows on the track to also advance to the finals. Tharp won its heat from the obstacles of 60 million men in 7.60, publishing the second faster classification. Hardin ran a tactical race in the male mile, crossing in 4: 04.56 to gain his heat and advance the event. Torian, competing in his first meeting at the SEC, held a better 8.13 Personnel in the obstacles of 60 million women to advance.

Auburn launches had three scorers on Friday, including two who took home bronze medals. The last year student Kyle Brown won his third inner bronze of the SEC of his career in the male weight launch after a 22.24m/72-11.75 launch in his sixth and last attempt. Senior Adrienne Adams matched Brown’s final on the women’s side, occupying the third place in the weight launch with a personal best of 21.41m/70-3. The teammate Maura Huwalt also scored, finishing a fourth with a better mark of 20.99m/68-10.5.

The last day of the Inter Interior Championships will conclude on Saturday at 2 pm with the female height jump, while the action on the track will begin at 4:05 pm with the finals of the male mile. On Saturday you will see 12 Auburn athletes competing on the track with seven others in field events along with a pair of relay.
