Ex-Mo-fiscal General Write Tinubu in Nnamdi Kanu

Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume, San, former Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in the State of Imo, has asked President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the current trial of NNAMDI Kanu, the leader of the indigenous people outlawed by Biafra (Ipob).

Ume, who requested a political solution in the matter, urged President Tinubu to use his good position to ensure the liberation of Mr. Kanu as part of the efforts to restore peace in the southeast.

The main lawyer made the appeal in an open letter to the president, entitled: “Currify the wounds in our construction efforts of the Nation and coincide with Nigeria with a new sustainable nation” on Saturday in Abuja.

Ume, who is also a rapporteur, victims of persecution, said that the early release of Mr. Kanu would not be a sign of weakness but a demonstration of political wisdom and stay.

He caught the president’s attention to Mr. Kanu’s tribulations dating from October 14, 2015, when he was arrested by State Security Service agents for alleged accusations related to terrorism when he was prosecuted in court on October 23, 2015.

He regretted that the iPob leader was quickly becoming a prisoner of consciousness.

Mr. Ume advocated the early launch of Mr. Kanu, adding that doing so would not only decrease tensions in the region, but also gave him the opportunity to convert a new sheet.

The letter further attracted the attention of President Tinubu to similar agitations in other parts of the country, especially in the South-West and the Niger Delta, where the government had exercised a “wonderful discretion” to discourage tensions and promote dialogue.

Parts of the letter said: “I think that a political, peaceful and reconciliatory approach will better serve the country and will provide a robust step towards healing national wounds, restoring economic stability and reaffirming our commitment to unity in diversity.

“The liberation of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will not be a sign of weakness, but a demonstration of political wisdom and stay.

“Its evolutionary perspectives, molded by time and reflection, can be used as a valuable resource on our trip to a more unified and prosperous nation.”

Mr. Ume appealed to the president to “reflect on the pleas of our late wise men: Mbazurike Amachi; George Obiozo, Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Emmanuel Iwuanyawu; Ayo Adbanjo and Edwin Clark, who spent their last years defending peace, unity, national healing and the request for their liberation.”
