Law against Hate Speech – Karnataka Government to introduce hard hatred speech and the law of crime – Karnataka News

The Karnataka government is considering the introduction of a strict law to address hate discourse and hate crimes, with the aim of imposing severe sanctions on criminals. The plans are in motion to write the bill for the prohibition of hate discourse and hate crime, which will specifically go to speeches and actions that incite hatred against people or communities.

The proposed legislation seeks to enforce a prohibition of hate discourse in public meetings, ensuring that no individual or group is directed based on caste, religion or gender. In addition, the bill aims to establish more strict control over the inductor hate content on social networks, prohibiting inflammatory rhetoric in plays, public meetings or events.

According to the proposed law, criminals could face punishments that go from three to five years in prison, and repeat offenders potentially face permanent restrictions on public platforms. The government is expected to end the draft soon and seek legal opinion before presenting it at the next session of the Assembly in March.

Speaking about the bill, the minister of Karnataka IT-BT, Priyank Kharge, said: “As I mentioned earlier, we have discussed this within our party. We are committed to promoting an environment conducive to growth, maintaining the law and order, ensuring that hate speeches do not take place and, most importantly, we protect all communities constitutionally.”

Responding to the Karnataka government movement, deputy Lop Aravind Bellad said: “Once we see the bill, we will discuss it naturally.”

The ruling party of Congress will maintain discussions about the bill before making a final decision. The measure is produced as part of broader efforts to curb divisive rhetoric and promote social harmony in the state.
