The jury condemns the man of murder attempt by two police officers from Portland

A Multnomah County jury found a guilty man on Monday from Trying to shoot and kill two Portland police officers During a persecution connected to a 2021 theft, according to the Multnomah County District Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecutors said Christian Daniel Fitz-Henry was fleeing the police after he was involved in a robbery of October 1, 2021, where the victim, Joshua Newell died.

The police learned that Fitz-Henry was going to commit another robbery and went to the hotel where he and his girlfriend, Alicia Misner, stayed.

However, the couple moved away, and the officers used spike strips to burst the tires of their car. The couple stopped and left and ran in opposite directions.

There was a persecution, and Fitz-Henry ran towards an entrance path between two buildings, with the sergeants of the Portland Police. Kimberly Hubbard and John Billard followed him in his patrol.

Prosecutors said Fitz-Henry shot a .45 caliber gun to the officers three times.

None of the officers was injured.

The jury found Fitz-Henry guilty of two positions of first degree murder attempt for trying to kill the officers. The jury also found him guilty of illegal use of a weapon with a firearm, a criminal in possession of a firearm and interfering with a peace officer.

“This violent act towards officers, since they started a traffic stop, could have easily injured or killed,” said Chief Bob Day in the press release of a prosecutor’s office. “I am grateful to our investigators and the district prosecutor’s office for their exhaustive work to achieve justice in this case.”

The attached prosecutor of the Multnomah County District, Shawn Oversters, prosecuted the case and said in the same press release that justice had been served.

“(Police officers) are people with families and children and even grandchildren, people at home who care about them every day,” he said. “This defendant was willing to kill two police officers just to run away for another day. I am grateful that the jury is responsible for their actions. “

The Fitz-Henry sentence hearing is scheduled for April 18.

In the theft of October 1, 2021, where the victim, Joshua Newell, died, the jury found Fitz-Henry not guilty of second degree murder but guilty of robbery, according to judicial documents. Fitz-Henry went to Newell’s house to finish a drug agreement and fired his weapon in self-defense after Newell shot him, a judicial document said.

According to the prosecutor, Misner, Fitz-Henry’s girlfriend, declared himself guilty of possession of a stolen vehicle and trying to avoid a police officer. It is scheduled to be sentenced on March 20.
