James Harden’s former teammate makes strong statement after Clippers-Warriors

James Harden made a splash when he joined the Clippers in November 2023, calling himself “The System.” Harden didn’t receive a proper training camp with the team last season, but that wasn’t the case this year as he’s already proving why he’s worthy of that nickname.

The Clippers finished a mini tour of Golden State and Denver that ended with a successful 2-0 winning streak, and it wouldn’t have happened without Harden. In Golden State, Harden scored 23 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds, helping lead the Clippers to their second victory of the season.

Harden was needed to step up in the absence of Kawhi Leonard and this is where he has shined the most. During an episode of FanDuel TV’s Run It Back Show, Harden’s former teammate and former sixth man Lou Williams praised Harden’s ability to elevate the Clippers.

“But how quickly we forget when James Harden’s success ever depended on someone else being on the court,” Williams said. “This is where he feels most comfortable, we’re talking about a former league MVP. Is he still the one who doesn’t have anyone to give in to, I think that’s when he plays his best basketball. “If you give him the ball, he’s going to win you a lot of basketball games just by being James Harden.”

It’s only been three games so far, but in those games, Harden has averaged 25.0 points, a league-high 11.7 assists, and 8.3 rebounds. In a season where the Clippers needed a star to shine, Harden has filled that role to perfection.
