Iran says it has “the right and duty” to defend itself after Israeli attacks

The Israeli military said 80 projectiles were fired across the border on Saturday.

Hezbollah subsequently issued evacuation warnings for more than a dozen designated locations in Israel, in a new move that mirrors warnings long issued by the Israeli military for areas of Gaza and Lebanon where it intends to operate.

Confirming its own attacks after explosions and anti-aircraft fire rang out in Tehran, the Israeli military said it had struck Iranian missile factories and military facilities in several regions.

“The retaliatory strike was completed and the mission was accomplished,” and the Israeli planes “returned safely,” a military spokesman said.

Iran confirmed that Israel had attacked military sites around the capital and elsewhere in the country, saying the attacks caused “limited damage” but killed four soldiers.

The general staff of Iran’s armed forces said only radar systems were damaged in the attacks and refrained from any threat of immediate retaliation.

“While reserving its legal and legitimate right to respond at the appropriate time, Iran is prioritizing the establishment of a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon,” he said.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said there are “no limits” to Iran’s determination to defend itself.
